converting Rem 700 7-08 to .223
what parts are needed to convert a SA 700 from .473 to .378? Can you recommend sources for the parts? There seems to be a shortage of SA SS .378 actions lying around, so i'm considering converting one of my 7-08s

I'm thinking barrel, bolt, follower, magazine plug(to shorten mag)....what am I missing?

Dave Kiff offers replacement bolts. They require the installation of the bolt handle and extractor. They are offered to accept either the standard Remington extractor or the Sako. You could simply have a Sako style extractor installed on your existing bolt, which when re-bushed, could be cut for the smaller case head. And you would need a new follower, box and spring. I think that's it. Maybe. Big Grin

CAS II
Having tried that very thing myself, you would be WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ahead by selling one of your 7-08s and buying a complete 223 SPS rifle for the action.

You could also buy a 223 action from Midway.

For the expense and headache......I'd do exactly what CAS II is recommending.

Then you have nearly two rifles for the cost of one.

Thanks. I'll check Midway to see if they have SS actions.
