Breaking rust?
I was given a Starrett 3 inch micrometer and the anvil and the stem have some rust on them. It looks like they will clean up just fine. What in your opinions would be the best solution to soak it in to loosen the spindle up? bewildered Thanks for looking.

Kroil will work well if you have some. Liquid Wrech is another good one.

Dump the whole Mic in a pie pan with enough ATF to cover it & let soak a few days Wink

Try some PB Blaster from your local parts store, good stuff.

Kroil is the best for me to get rusty threads loose.

For removing rust on a surface, I put the object in vinegar and salt, and then in the microwave until it boils. Then I wash off all the corrosive chemical and falling off rusty flakes. Practice on a rusty screw first.
