Rock8296M-1 Garand Mods
Could or would it be possible to adapt a M-1 Garand to accept the 20-round BAR mags?

Rock8296Also, does anybody know how hard it would be or if it would even be possible to rebore a M-1 Garand to 35 Whelen? the only difference would be the bore, as the en bloc clips could still be used and no mag mods would be needed. any information would be most appreciated.

<'Trapper'>Don't know about the BAR clips but it can and has been done to modify the M-1 to a sort of hybrid and use the M-14 clips. The Italians did a lot of these, converted to 308 caliber and called the BM-59. I had one for a while, it worked well and I wish I had it back!

Springfield Armory experimented with fitting the BAR magazine to the Garand; the first one, designated the T20 was delivered to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in November of 1944. The BAR magazine was considered to be too weak and was replaced by another magazine in the T20E1.
IIRC, it was necessary to cut, extend and re-weld the receiver in order for the BAR mag. to fit.
The M14, of course, incorporated many of the features of these experiments.
