Sorry if this isn't the best section in which to ask this question, but it looked the most appropriate. I found a used Remington Model 700 that is supposedly a Custom Shop offering for sale today, but I wanted to make sure that it truly is as advertised. It doesn't exactly fit any of the descriptions of the "standard" Custom Shop rifles as listed on Remington's website. The rifle has a stock that appears very similiar to the Custom KS mountain rifle, but it doesn't have an cheekpiece. It also does not have the matte blueing of custom KS and the bolt is jeweled. Looking at the serial number, it starts with a "C". Does this certify it as a Custom Shop product? The rifle is in excellent condition and $700 seems like a great bargain. Any help would be appreciated...Thank you.

Call Remington and give them the Serial Number. They can tell you. The "C" at the beginning of the serial number does not stand for "Custom".

The C prefix is used on all 700s starting in 11-87. It neither shows it is or isn't a custom shop rifle.

sounds like a FS (production) not a KS(Custom Shop). Custom shop rifles are rollmarked with Caliber and 2 proof marks only.. if it says Remington Arms & has the Remington address it is a production rifle. I would pay around $600.00 for a FS, I have 3 KS's & 1 C that I paid under $600.00 before the new owners doubled the price of Custom shop rifles.
