Well I turned by Rem 700 35 Whelen into a Husqvarna 9.3x62 today via a little swappin' and sellin'. I want to find out a bit about the Husky. It is in as-new condition with a hideous, though confortable stock of beech or some other gypo wood. The 23.75" barrel is marked: Husqvarna Vapenfabriks A.B. Kal. 9.3x62, The receiver ring (large) has a crown over a fancy "H" with SWEDEN underneath. Serial number is 10XXXX. Ramped, white, hooded, patridge-like front sight and a simple stamped steel elevation adjustable rear. The action is not drilled and tapped for scope mounts and the safety is of the three position wing type that sweeps from the far left to straight to far right. The non-hinged floorplate has a small button that releases it. What can you tell me about it? Also, I assume a replacement Blackburn trigger for a 98 Mauser would fit? As much as I hate to drill the receiver I just can't see using those factory sights. Suggestions?

My primary hunting weapon is a Husqvarna "hi-power" in 3006. Sounds a lot like yours. My rifle is drilled and tapped, but I took the scope off and have been looking around a little for an original rear site as mine just has a "Marble" dove tail plug. If you are interested in selling your rear site once you get a scope on it let me know. My serial number is 117***. The husqvarna rifles are based on commercial FN mauser 98's. The quality of these rifles are usually very good. My gun shoots about 2in groups but I am pretty happy with that.

You have a very nice gun there..I just sold one like it..I suggest a Blackburn trigger and they will just interchange.A recoil pad and drill and tap that sucker....Use it and enjoy...They are worth about $600 to $800 in original condition so decide what your going to do with it before you modify it and check and see how well it shoots at 50 yds. before you modify it....You could also d&T it for a reciever sight without hurting the value as some were and some were not D&T'ed...thats a good option. Your choice, I would do what I wanted if it were mine.

Yeah Ray, I think I will tweak it and keep it. Do I need to worry about that beech stock cracking if left as it is? Also, what should I do with the safety so I can mount a scope? Lastly, what is Blackburn's address and phone number? Thanks.

The stock wood, though not pretty is mighty tough, you will need another safty to mount a scope, several are available from Brownells...Ted Blackburn 801-794-3309, nice slim machined triggers that sit back in the trigger guard, a flaw with the rest of them like Timney that sit in the middle of the guard and are clunky ugly IMHO...
