Cleaning rod guide management ?
I use Stoney Point cleaning rod guides for most of my rifles (2 guide sizes + assorted collars). A minor irritation comes when pulling them out of CRF rifles (Mauser, Win 70 & Ruger) as the latter's fixed ejector prevents the guide from being pulled out. I usually get around by either depressing the ejector with a small screwdriver via the ejection port or with a finger reaching through the magazine housing. I've thought of bevelling the rear edge of the guide's chamber insert. How do you cope with this (minor) hindrance ?

I loosen the knurled brass screw, the thing that is in the bolt handle recess. Then I wiggle the guide around. I think your solution (bevelling the rear portion of the chamber insert) is better than mine, because I still have trouble. I don't guess it could cause any problems. There's a pretty clear wear mark where the insert meets the rear of the chamber, so function shouldn't be compromised if the insert is filed right up to the wear mark.

Andre,

Just loosen the brass screw so that you can pull the rod back. Keep the plastic collar where it is (it is depressing the ejector). When the chamber insert touches the collar, you can then pull the entire rod from the rifle. Make certain the chamber insert and collar stay in contact as you remove the rod.

Regards,

Terry
