JeffP30.06 to 338-06.
For elk,moose,etc... 250-300 yard max rifle.
What's the collective input?Pro/con

<eldeguello>For your proposed uses, I believe the .338/'06 would be superior to the plain '06. I'd use a 250 grain bullet in it for heavy game, but maybe the Nosler Partition 210 grain for elk. I would also consider having the barrel rebored to .338", rather than buying a new barrel!

ElkslayerMy 338-06 is one of my favorite elk cartridges. I have one and my hunting buddy has one. We both use the Nosler 210 bullet which really puts the thump on elk.
I would highly recommend it for elk hunting. It is an excellent medium bore cartridge.

<Rogue 6>I've never had a barrel rebored. What price range is fair for a 30-06 to 338-06 conversion.
