Pillar bedding a stock w/ an ABB???
Ok, kind of weird question. I have an HS Precision stock (Remington 700VS) w/ the Aluminum Bedding Block in it, and it's already been 'skim' bedded to ensure 100% contact btwn the stock and the receiver.

Now, for a specific reason (see the recent thread 'Take Five') I am looking at ways to accomplish bedding the receiver 'up' a little from where it sits originally, and bedding the trigger guard/ magazine floorplate assembly 'down' a little. One person (elsewhere) had suggested bedding w/ tall pillars, but I'm not sure that's feasible. I do have some machinist 'contacts' who could probably handle boring thru the ABB for a hole sized to match new pillars; the question is, is this the 'right' way to go about this, or would I be better off just getting some really thick bedding compound (someone mentioned some stuff from Score-High) and figuring out how to jack up the receiver slightly whilst bedding the action?

TIA,

Monte

This is covered in the other bedding post in this forum. Or you can do a search here and find what you are looking for. - Dan

Monte,
Talk to Elzie Scott at One Shot. He is the best contact in town regarding precision shooting. He could tell you whether this is just a waste of time or not, or the best way to do it.

Actually, I know Elzie as well. It was his idea to get these 700VS's skim-bedded in the first place. Boring thru an ABB and installing taller pillars is, to put it mildly, I for one haven't heard of before. I'll see if he has any ideas, but I figured I might have a shot (pun intended) of finding someone on the Internet who had seen/heard/dealt w/ this kind of weird situation. Not really something I'd expect to see in HBR. But, heck, I'll ask him anyway. It's nice to be able to stump him once in a while [Wink]
