Jay, IdahoBig Ruger 77? O.K. for Chey-Tac?
Ruger makes the bigger M77 for the .416 Rigby. Would this action work for the .408 Chey-Tac? The .408 case is the same dia. as the .505 Gibbs but operates at higher pressures.
Thanks for opinions.

Brent MoffittYes.
Hamilton Bowen builds the .505 Gibbs on them exclusively.
The OAL of Warrens loaded ammo may be too long with the 419gr bullet. The 305gr bullet may be a little bit shorter loaded, but then again they both may work fine.
I have one a Ruger rechambered to 416Wby and it feeds perfectly with no mods and holds 3 under the bolt too.
The .408 has been under consideration for use on my action too, but mine will be single feed only for long range shooting.

<John Lewis>I would be a little concerned using that big of a case that is loaded to the high pressures that the Chey-Tac is with a 1" thread shank. It might not make any difference, but better safe than sorry.

<KBGuns>Like John says, it would be pushing it IMO. The 408 Chey-Tac runs at 70,000 max psi. That pressure with the large diameter case seem to be asking for trouble. For the 505 Gibbs max pressure is only 45,000psi. Quit a big difference to compair.

RobgunbuilderDitto on the M77. I'd be concerned with using this action on a 70K PSI cartridge. The best choice would be a Mcmillan .50 BMG action with a .640 boltface. They will make such bolts on order. A Vektor will also work if you can find one. I think Prarie gunworks also has an action that they state will work with the Chey-Tac. If it were me ,I'd go with a .50 Mcmillan.-Rob
