Clio Gun ShopECT Removable Pilot Chamber Reamer
Midway is now selling these reamers at a pretty reasonable price for a removable pilot reamer. Does anybody know anything about them. Quality, Accuracy, etc. I have been very happy with reamers from Dave Kiff, Dave Manson and a few others and am always nervous about trying others. What is the latest Skinny on ECT????

z1rElliot Cutting Tools is owned by Dave Kiff of PTG. These reamers use a "c" clip to retain the bushing rather than a screw.

Marc_Stokeldwhat is different between these and the regulat PTG reamers? Thanks

Marc_StokeldWell, I see they are about 2/3 the cost of buying a PTG reamer. I was thinking it was maybe more than the bushing retaining method that was different. Are there any other differences?

z1rIf you buy a PTG non removable piloted reamer and send it back to have a live bushing put on it comes back exactly like the ECT reamer. Dave told me the only difference is the way in which the bushing is retained. One (PTG) is by screw which is the easier way of changing bushngs and one (ECT) by "c" clip. To my way of thinking, it would seem that if you used a barrel flush system for chambering, the C clip equipped reamer would actually do a better job of allowing coolant to pass. Either reamer takes the same bushings.

Marc_StokeldThat's interesting. I just recieved another PTG reamer last week, and I paid the usual $150. I usually get a reamer with what Dave calls his "match" dimensions, which has slightly sub-SAMMI diemensions, plus I always get it with no throat so I can cut it like i want it. Do you know if the ECT reamers have a "standard throat" on them, or is it just a 1 degree 30 minute lead? If I can get it with no throat, I'll start buying all ETC remaers from now on. I'll have to call Dave after the beginning of the year. I need a couple more reamers in the beginning of the new year

gasgunnerAll the reamers that I have gotten recently have used a "c" clip to retain the bushing, but they have all been carbide. All the HSS reamers I have use a screw except one that was converted from a solid pilot reamer. The clips are a pain in the neck, but they probably can't thread the carbide. I'd pay an extra $30 to have the screw. If you use the reamer more than a few times you will save that much in time wasted fooling with the clips.
