Pondering the purchase of a 9.3 octagon barrel For a project. What twist should I be using for a 9.3X62 and 286gr Partitions? Also has anyone used the Laupa 9.3X62 Brass? Is it as good as their other brass?
Thanks,
Thanks for the Reply,
Anyone have any information on the Barrels or the brass?
Thomas,
I own a cz 9.3x62 and I use lapua brass which is what I would suggest...IMHO it is the best there is.
Good luck with the 9.3 project.

AtkinsonAll LW 9.3 barrels are 1x14 so thats taken care of...
Lapua and Norma brass is what I have always used for my 9.3s...Lapua is the very best brass on todays market IMO, in any caliber...and a bit more expensive than most...I am also very pleased with the Norma brass...
I may have to try some Graft brass, but I do not know who makes their brass..It is cheap in price...about half of what Lapua costs as I recall....
Ray,
The Graf brass I've used is in 7.65x53mm and very good.
Gentlemen,
Thank you for your input, it is appreciated.
Upon reading this thread it came to my attention that I have put the cart before the horse. Will the 9.3x62 fit into a Ruger M-77 MkII Action that was originally a 7x57?
It seems to fit a 280 and a 30-06 with just a shade of clerance in the magazine box.
As far as I know any 30/06 length action should accomodate the 9.3x62 round.

AtkinsonA 30-06 length is required..The Ruger 7x57 may be a 06 length action, I would think it would be at any rate, but some changes in the box or bottom metal might be needed, along with a bit of opening of the bolt face..It is an easy job for a good smith at any rate...

jstevensThe Ruger action in 7x57 is the same as a .30-06. I've been using Grafs brass and can't see any reason yet to use more expensive brass in 9.3x62.
Thanks for the information, I was reasonably sure that this was the case, just wanted to verify that it indeed would work.
Any thoughts on 9.3x62 versus the 376 steyr?

AtkinsonWhatever you do, make the chamber throat fit with the magazine box...You would be surprised how many smith rechamber a rifle and put a short throat in it..I want to set the bullet out of the case as long as the magazine will allow and I want the throat cut to match...I normally send them a bullet in a case set up to my requirements...
Ray, I will be sure to make up a dummy round and have my smith throat accordingly. How much space between the bullet and the lands would be prudent? 10-15 thou?
