I looked at a CZ 7.62 carbine at the rifle shop last week and loved the gun, except, it has the "reverse" safety. Can the safety be changed to possibly a 3 position type safety?

That backwards safety is going to cost CZ someday. I hate it and lovethose 527s. I've tried to make a new safety to work normally but not sure it is going to work. The bolt shroud safety would be great.

I can't see a scenario where the safety would cost CZ but I can vision it costing someone who changed it.

The scenario cost them a rifle sale last week! If I can't get the safety changed for a decent price I won't buy the rifle, it's as simple as that.
If I'm shooting off the bench, the safety doesn't matter. However, shooting game with a rifle should be automatic and if you have to look at the safety or say "which way does this safety work", well, I don't want any part of that gun. I guess I'm just not as talented a shooter as some.

Hmm, I've been shooting these 527's for years and can't remember a time when the safety has been an issue for me. In fact, the only time a safety is an issue is when it fails to function. Never had that happen yet.

I've never had any issue with them, it's pretty hard not to notice the red dot.

I've guided several hundred people over the last 30 years. It would scare you to guess how many of them had to "look" at their rifle to determine if the safety was on or off. I had a guy two weeks ago that told me right off the bat he should have been a marine sniper because he was that good of a shot. Six shots later he finally had an animal down, I know he wanted to eat his words told to me earlier. My point is, anyone can shoot a rifle, well almost anyone, but shooting a rifle should be pre-built into our brain, pushing the safety off and breaking the trigger. If I have to look to see if the "red dot" is visible than I'm not completely familiar with that rifle and I don't want it. Sure, I could buy the CZ and get used to it but with the majority of my life spent on rifles that goes "forward" to fire I guess I'm too damn old to change now. As much as I like their little carbine, they can keep it.

I've got one of the 527 carbines in .223. the safety is backwards from all the other rifles on the planet, but you just have to put yourself in the mindset that you use with a lever rifle with a hammer.

Pull it back to fire and then have at it.

Actually, this rifle gets used about 99.99% at the range and the safety doesn't come into play.

There is no problem with their safeties. Its just a matter of habits, what you are used to.

I like the ZG 47:s, m 21/22, so much that I only have rifles with the "backward" safety.
