Roll Call, Custom Scope bases????
Friends-

I wanted do have a roll call of custom gunsmiths that make great looking scope bases.

The first couple that come to mind are of course Tom Burgess, Dean Emeritas as well as Mark Stratton. Mark's scope bases always catch my eye.

Who and what are your favorites? Pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I prefer Conetrol rings. I have custom bases by Jim DuBell on my rifles. Sorry, no pics, ask Soverns if he has some.

Like FMC said.....Jim Dubell. He will make bases for just about any rings you desire. I will drag out a set made for conetrols and take pic or two over the holiday.

Another vote for Jim Dubell.

He did the bases on this Springfield. The rings are Talley.

These were made to my specs by Griffin & Howe, using Leupold QR gunsmith blanks.

KurtC---

Those are very nice and still allow the use of the stripped clips!

The rifle is a 1938 Brno Model A, in 8x60S. Griffin & Howe made the bases, along with fitting ERA sights and doing a nice rust blue with nitre accents.

KurtC whats the hole spaceing on the rear base? Looks like maybe .5

I have a unaltered mauser that I need to D/t and get bases for. The luepold stantards have a .325, Warne weaver style is .440 . Kinda sucks, can't swap bases.

HERE is some metal I had done a good number of moons ago in a distant part of the universe......The planet I think no longer supports life, but the pic may give you an idea of what some folk did there.

GSP7,

It looks like the rear holes are .575" apart, center to center.

Terry-

Did Mark Stratton grind off the stripper clip "hump" or does the rear base fit over the "hump"?

The hump is gone on both rifles.

The bottom rifle (9.3X62 1909 Mauser) took this guy on opening morning dancing

Yes, I did grind off the stripper clip hump and surface ground the receiver. I make the rear base long enough to cover the stripper clip slot.

Joe Smithson's are really trick, but very difficult to describe. I've got a client's rifle with him for a set, and will photograph them when it returns.

If you want a pair of these installed (and I do), you'll need to have your gunsmith order and install a set of Leupold QD Gunmaker bases. They come as a "blank slate" with the levers installed so all your smith has to do is machine out the bottom side to match it to your receiver.
