A young friend of mine living in the US has a Grandfather in Alberta Canada that wants to gift a Winchester 1894 to him.
Thought I would ask the Gunsmiths first on the process.
Everything I look up requires you pay duty on the sales price of the rifle. This rifle has been in the family a long while and grandpa wants to gift it to the young US resident. No sale involved.
Any ideas on how to process this.
Would prefer real experience over opinions.

I'll get it back to the top for you. A guy I knew once brought some rifles back from Canada; put them in your trunk and hope you don't get searched. He never did. He also used to ship rifles to England, labeled as go cart axles. Do not try this now. He died two years ago, but nor from doing risky stuff.

The duty on firearms coming into the Usa is only about 3%. Get a letter from the giftor stating the used rifle is worth $300 and pay the $9.
