Do you guys usually bed in front of the recoil lug at all or do you stop there? I was thinking about maybe doing the first inch or so of the barrel. Suggestions?

Thats exactly what I do.
I bed basically the whole action, but especially around the rear stock screw and the recoil lug area, then about an inch or so in front of that.
I then free float the rest of the barrel with 20 millimeter black tape.
