I have a couple of hard-used target rifles that need trigger, hammer, and knock-off sear tuning, and it is time that I learned to do this for myself. Are there generic or universal jigs for doing these jobs? I can't find anything that looks useful while paging through the Brownell's website. Does one have to make specific jigs for each part? That seems problematic in a lot of ways, but at least all of my rifles are of the same model (Winchester 1885s).


Anyway, if anyone knows of any good turtorial, photos of jigs, sources of jigs - whatever, I'd like to study up and would appreciate some directions to useful resources.

It is not uncommon that the screws that hold trigger and hammer are worn or the mating holes are oversized. Check these before recutting other parts. Easier to replace a screw than to recut sear or trigger or hammer.

Bob, That's a great comment. I should have thought of that but didn't. As much as these two rifles have been used, there is at least a decent probability of that being an issue.
