grizz007stepped countour barrel?
Does my J.C.Higgins M50 have what is called a stepped military contour barrel? I am considering getting the XS Rail/Base for this rifle and putting on a .190 Aperture Ghost rear as well. Being called a "commercial' throws me off. I see that it has the barrel shank dimensions of the older Mausers-stumped. I have Stuart doing the rail work and what ever else in the receiver, boltface etc...

grizz007you can see what throws me a bit.
http://www.xssights.com/store/scope.htmlwhen I look at the Mauser98 isn't that what the Higgins(M50 .30-06) is but "commercial" so.....I do not have mine with me so I can assume it is like the Remingtons contour barrel-correct? Hate to be a nuisance with Timan so with you guys it ain't a problem. ha.

K3yston3I have a stepped contour on my 8mm-06AI, which is the original barrel on the militay mauser that I have. Infact mine still has the waffenampe or however it is spelled stamps on it. Most likely, your commercial action wouldn't have the stepped barrel.

KurtCThat XS mount is designed for military 98's with the original step barrel designed for the ladder sight sleeve.
As stated above, your Higgins should have a commercial contoured barrel, and either your barrel or the XS base might have to be modified to fit.

grizz007the thought of latheing the barrel and stepping the barrel for this mount to fit just went out the window-thanks , a no go, won't do.
