jimatcati need a 20 ga Winchester Ranger 140 bbl threaded for chokes...
I bought a Winchester Ranger 140 20 ga auto thats been cut back to 24"... nice job on the cutback, since the barrel is marked winchoke, i suspect the tube caught a wad, or was damaged somehow.. barrel is chrome, and plenty thick looks like... My gunsmith is retiring and not taking on any more work.. i need this barrel threaded, and reamed
i prefer winchokes.. since ive got extra choke tubes for another shotgun.. im not paying Briley $400 to do it.. recomendations?? thanks, Jim

RollandDepending on your abilitys of which I don't know, you can rent the tools from 4D rentals and do it your self.

Doing stuff like that put my gunsmith's kids through private colleges!

sliversChrome lined barrel,,,,, ya' gotta remove the chrome before using the reamer or risk damaging the tool. Bore diameter and barrel wall thickness will determine what choke tube system the barrel can be modified to use. Yes, bore diameters matters, it's not all about barrel wall thickness. ADDED: I checked my note book, .624" is the MAXIMUM bore diameter of the barrel for choke tube installation. Bigger than that bore risks tube 'blow out', as the skirt on the tube may protrude into the bore. .717" - .718" is MINIMUM barrel O.D. for installation of 20g WinChokes.

ArnietLook in all the gun websites. I wanted a barrel with choke tubes for an old Remington 11-48, because it is the only shotgun I can really shoot. I bought a "parts" gun for less than the price of adding tubes to my existing barrel. The only tubes that work are the Carlson thin walled tubes.
As a side note, I now also have a pile of usable spare parts for my favorite shotgun.

ArnietI should have said that the parts gun had a barrel that had been threaded, with the tubes.

sliversThat E-Bay barrel is less than having your barrel threaded

ClemsonI would be astounded if a Winchester Ranger had chrome lined bore.
