The holy grail should arrive in 2 weeks - a 30-06 ZG47

Plan is to strip, inspect, clean (ie gratuitous aquaintance and fondling ), assemble some ammunition and have some fun. At some point in the future it is likely to become a custom project.

Please post lots of photos to keep me going until it arrives!

Rifle is for use not collection (aftermarket pad allready)so looking for tips the advisability of playing with free floating (and hence not using the forend barrel screw) glass bedding, trigger work, safety etc. Also wonder how they shoot as is?

My experience with the older Brnos is that they shoot very well as they came from the factory. I change the safety to the Mod. 70 style as that is what I am used to, but, I would not remove the forend screw when glassbedding and did not on my rifles.

I have stripped a ZG-47, a lightweight .30-06 in minty shape with a buggered stock and a 21H in nearly as nice shape also with a wrecked stock. This provides me with the actions to build a custom 9.3x62 (ZG) and a .338-06 lightweight backpacking rifle, Grizzly capable.

I would put a good synthetic stock on your rifle, the Micky AHR model comes to mind. You have there what I honestly consider the single, finest, production sporting rifle ever made. In 40+ years of ownership and serious use of about 100 big game rifles in B.C. conditions, I have yet to see a rifle that I consider as good as a ZG-47. I own about two dozen fine sporters plus some other rifles, including all the "name" ones and nothing equals my ZGs, especially for the price they sell for here in Canada.

I am happy for you that you got one as I remember that you wanted to buy one of mine which I will not sell, I hope you enjoy it and shoot mucho game with it!

Interested in the Micky AHR stock, I had thought about a Macmillan but assumed it would have to go into the interarms MK10 they have, what's the AHR?

It is the stock pattern that they make for one of their smaller corporate customers, IRRC, check their website. I also highly recommend the Borden Rimrock stocks, just got my third and will be buying several more. A ZG with one of these installed and Talley mts, with a good scope is about as close to rifle heaven as one can get, short of a Wells, Gentry, Golmatic or other full custom action. I am going to put one on my ZG in .06 in due course.

I believe "AHR" stands for American Hunting Rifles, Inc. This page on their site briefly mentions the fiberglass stocks they offer. AHR Site
