There's a bunch in Florida called Checkmate ... they do absolutely superb hard chrome plating. The do not blur lettering, nor roll edges. They can do full polish sides and matt top on auto pistol slides.

Lots of the best IPSC races guns in the country are plated for hard use by these folks.

Old Fart,

Check out a company called Caswell. http://www.caswellplating.com

They sell kits for electroless nickel and electroless Hard Krome starting at $60. (The electroless versions are best for firearms because they provide a more uniform coating)

I used the electroless nickel kit to plate a P-14 frame I had purchased in the white. It was about as easy as boiling an egg and I've been very pleased with the results.

Also, there is an extra $20 discount if you purchase their kits without the manual. (The manual is a thick book that covers every plating process they sell) I already own the manual and would be happy to send you the pertinent pages if your interested in one of their kits.

It is really a very simple process. The finish you get all depends on the finish you put on the metal under the finish. If you want a matte finish, just bead blast the area you want matte. If you want polished, just buff the area you want to be polished.

No Rocket Science involved.
