hoehne.300 mag barrel to .30-06 action
Is it possible to adapt a barrel from a .300 magnum to a .30-06 action? If so is it a big or small job?

Paul HYou would have to cut off the chamber portion of the barrel slightly over 2", then thread and have it chambered as an -06. Most likely the barrel will be too small in dia to allow a safe chamber that far forward.
If you want to make your -06 into a 300 mag, the bolt face and extractor would have to be increased in dia, and modifications would be requered to the feed rails and ramp for the larger dia case.

hoehnePaul-Thanks for the answer, what I would like to do is put a 24" barrel on my Mod. 70 Fwt. I was hoping to find a take-off barrel, but guess they are scarce in .30-06.

rembohoehne, just try some Hornady "Light Magnums" or Federal "High Energy" ammo in your 22" 30-06.It will reportedly add as much velocity as a couple inches of barrel, maybe more.

hoehneRembo-Thanks for your input, I have read on some of these websites that both Hornady and Federal have been a bit optimistic about the velocity of their high energy rounds, therfore the question. I don't yet have a chronograph, therefore the question. Thanks-Karl

dan belisleHoehne, if you want to chronograph something and you get up to Edmonton, just email me and we'll set something up. Take care - Dan
