New barrel ?
I have a push feed Winchester Mdl 70 243 . What cost should I expect to pay to have a new 24 inch blued barrel put on it ? I would like to have the new barrel a bit larger in diameter than the orignal barrel and the cartridge chamber would be would be the same base diameter as the 243-308 Winchester rounds so that I would not change the bolt.

Rebarrel for a PF model 70 would run $185 labor in my shop, add return shipping to that and the cost of the barrel. If a Shilen is used, my choice, it would run $185 plus another $30 or so for barrel blueing.

Jim's figures are right in the ball park of many. I'd say $500 would get you in the ball park of materials, shipping, and labor with most gunsmiths, maybe a little more.

Not to under cut anyone's smithing work, but a check on Gunbroker may get you the new take off for which you are looking. A swap, headspace, test fire and you may be in under $200. I had a a re-barrel done this summer with a new Lothar Walther barrel for $235 including the barrel, less bluing. Just a differet route, eh?
