scope mounting question
how much clearance does a scope need above the barrel? I am mounting a new scope on an older Weatherby 30-06 and I have about 1/16 inch. clearance. Is that enough?

Thanks.

Yes. Some would even say thats to much. [Wink]

If the scope is comfortable that low, then yes a clearance of 1/16 inch is fine.

I'm with bluetick, I try to get as close to the barrel as I can.

I have one scope that is so close to the barrel that you have to shine a bright light behind it to see that there actually is clearance. The lower the better.

Yes. The lower the better. The only thing to be wary of is if the scope has an adjustable objective and the adjusting ring has a protrusion that will strike the barrel if it is mounted too low.
