Bedding a M70

John55Bedding a M70
When glass bedding the recoil lug of a Winchester M70, do you completely remove the factory bedding/hot glue from the stock? The glue on my gun is about a 3/16" thick, so it will dramatically change how the gun sits in the stock if I scrape it all out. There will probably be some contact with the barrell channel too. I couldn't find a post that specifically stated how much of the glue to remove. Thanks,
John

CAS IIAbsolutely remove all the old stuff, and rough up the sirface of the stock where you will be bedding.
You can use 10 mil pipe tape around the barrel to ensure perfect float when re-bedding.

shootawayJohn55, my most accurate rifle is a factory Winchester with the factory bedding. If it shoots hunting loads in one hole at 200yds,why touch it?

John55Accuracy is ok with mine. However,I was not getting one hole groups at 200.

Could be due to the twist. You might consider trying a different bullet/powder combo.

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Are you saying your factory bedded Winchester is capable of 1 hole accuracy with hunting loads at 200 yards?

If you have a factory gun that shoots as stated, you could get a fortune for it from the bench rest boys

Maybe you just missed the target on all the other shots after the first one

Jim KobeI think what he meant to say was he takes 5 shots at 5 diferent targets, each of which is a one hole group.

dempseyMight be hanging a tractor tire out at 200 yards and aiming for the existing hole? That'd be a six hole group.

ThaineRemember he is one of our Northern neighbors where they use Imperial measurements that don't always agree with what we in the US think something is. i.e. Imperial Gallon = 1.2 US gallons. Maybe there is a difference between Imperial holes and US Holes

I did find that 3 barleycorn = 1 inch so I'm going to start trying to build a 1 barley corn rifle!
