armorerModel 70 bolt handle installation
Rifle magazine has an article on correcting the potential problem related to the bolt handle installation on newer M70s. It is press fitted, which could allow it to freely rotate making the bolt inoperable. The affected bolts show a fine line between the bolt body and the handle base.
Has any reader seen this problem? Is the notch and weld remedy warranted and effective?

TraxSome of the premium custom rifle builders using the classicM70 receiver address the issue by pining.

butchlambertDan Armstrong has fixed many of those, both in CM and SS.
http://www.accu-tig.com/ His turnaround time is real quick. He has done several bolt handles for me and his tig work is just great.

ALL post-64 Winchester M70's feature a separate bolt handle. It is not a press fit necessarily though some may be. It is silver soldered/brazed onto a knurled extension of the bolt body. Grinding a groove and welding is OK but just ensuring a good silver solder joint is probably at least as good. Regards, Bill.
