NitromanAussie's: Where Do You Get Your Stock Woods?
Gentlemen,
I am wondering if there are sites that sell gunstock woods in Australia? There HAVE to be. I haven't been able to get one to come up during my searches of the web Down Under.
Could any of you post those sites? I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks.

OzzieDocMost gunstock wood is imported from the USA and I am not aware of any website in Australia offering indigenous wood. What exactly are you after, might be able to get you an e mail address instead.

fla3006Apparently some Juglans reglia (European walnut) is grown in Australia.
www.heritagewalnut.comimports it and has it for sale in the US. Don't know where you get it locally down under.

CustomstoxThere is one very big dealer in Australia who sent me an email trying to market some here. He also attended the ACGG show a year ago. His reputation among Australian stockmakers isn't the best. Nuff said.

Stu CTry Ross Waghorn in Melbourne. He is a stockmaker of some repute in Australia. No web site. Phone is 61 3 9762 2438. I think Ross' source is Roger Vardy(?). Not too sure about that but for sure Ross will know all the dealers in Australia.

NitromanOkay. I will try to look him up in Yellow Pages Australia. International calls are spendy.
OzzieDoc, can you email me offline? fsrfr@uaf.edu
Thanks.
Roger,
I got a stock a couple weeks ago from Bob Taylor.
I wanted a semi-inletted english style stock that I wasnt finding here .. reasonable, that is.
I got a very, very nice piece of aussie grown english walnut, shaped, inletted and delivered to my door for $180.
I couldnt be more pleased. I expect geoff slee is the biggest semi -inletted stock maker in australia. I dont think he has a web page. He quoted me the same money for a very plain piece of NZ walnut.
Bob taylors e-mail is taygun@bigpond.com.au
you can try his web page taylorgunsmithing , but I have trouble getting onto it.

OzzieDocRoger,
It's a long weekend here and I'm heading off to the farm for a few days. I'll email you when I get back.
Geoff Slee is probably the biggest stockmaker in Australia just like a previous post mentions but I don't know where he gets his wood from. He doesn't have a listed email or website but his phone number is 613 53677282. This is in my state so if you're in no hurry wait till I contact you next week. I'm quite happy to ring him on your behalf once I know what you want. The English walnut grown here was planted early this century by farmers just for the walnuts. I guess some of the trees are now being harvested for the wood but in a relatively small way. I have 2 on the farm that will go this way one day.
There are a few black walnut plantations in Victoria being grown specifically for timber but they are fairly small and still in their infancy. Got a few myself.
a lot of australian stocks are imported from New Zealand
