Greener shotguns and browning
Morning gents

I have a greener shotgun which I am tidying up for a friend and he wants me to do a re brown of the barrels, no problems there.
The barrels have a pattern or patina on them, I think its called that.
I normally clean the barrels up with either white vinegar of a very week muriatic mix to remove old bluing and I am a tad worried that this might affect the pattern on the barrels.

Any comments please

Hi,

I believe you are on the correct path in questioning methodology prior to the dive. I can't answer your question, however if the barrels are Damascus and the proper technique is not followed, you may lose the beauty of the barrels. Great learning project, I feel. As a side note, were the barrels originally browned or are you witnessing blued barrels that have patinated to brown over time?

Luck,

Stephen

I am not too sure where the case hardening came into play regarding my original question. The action is not being touched apart from a light polish
