Venzuelan Mausers
Looks like I may have to go work in Venezuela at the end of the month for while (3-4 weeks). Any info on which of the Venezuelam Mausers are particularly desireable? Has anyone brought any of these home form there? Hard/easy to do? The Canadian side is simple, just declare them and register them at the border. I know the Venezuelans used 1910's, czech vz24's, and FN 24/30's, in rifle, short rifle, and carbine. Are any of these of particular interest? - Dan

Dan, the FN M24 Venezuelan in 7X57 is superb. I have one that was altered slightly by the addition of a single-set trigger, M70 Win. type safety, low bolt handle, and Redfield Jr. scope mount. It has a 4X scope with a 20mm objecive, which does not touch the rear sight leaf. All other hardware on it is as-issued. The gun was in barely fired (unissued??) condition when I got it for $350.00. With two of my handloads (developed for a Ruger No. 1A), this rifle will shoot three shots into a little over half an inch at 100 meters. I left it as purchased, because it has such a BEAUTIFUL stock of European walnut, and all-matching numbers. Despite the bolt handle''s having been forged to the low position, the numbers on the bolt handle are untouched!
