I have been lurking around this forum and learning a lot. I have ran into a problem using Internet Explorer 5.5 and I need advice from someone better educated than me. It will only pick up some of the gunsmithing thread (the way it was back on the 17th. It will only pick up the African hunting thread the way it was back on the 16th. If I use Netscape 4.7 it picks it all up. I am using Windows 95 on a 266 MHz machine. Another thing I just installed 5.5. It happen to me a few days ago so I deleted 5.5 and reinstalled it. When I had 5.5 installed the first time this forum was stuck back on the 14th. I know it is something in the browser because I can access all of the forum on our computer at work. Does anoyone have any ideas other that float testing this machine in the river or using it for a target?

It keeps good dates & time. I did not notice this problem until I installed IE 5.5.

then
Internet Options
then
temporary internet files settings
is the "check for newer versions of stored pages"
every vist to the page
checked?
If not check it and try again.

Your entire system needs a upgrade. Win 95 & 266MHz is barely cutting it now days. Puter prices are down & Xmas is around the corner!

Sounds like you need to clear out your Cookies files and your cache files more often. I had the same problem for awhile until someone helped me through this.
Either follow the instructions above, or go to your help file on your computer and follow the instructions (after printing them out). Good luck- Sheister

Using AOL???? If so that is likely your problem. If you don't this is for others who do. AOL Pushes stuff onto your computer without your knowledge or permission. If works OK for people who have little computer knowledge. Unfortunately it will eventually cause major problems. All that stuff they install on your machine will begin conflicting with other things and you will end up with odd problems, and freezing up for no reasaon. Dump AOL!, whipe your hard drive, reload everything. Sorry to bring bad news.

Looks like your solution is working. I followed the steps & when I got to check for newer versions of the page "never" was checked so I checked "always". It appears to have fixed it. A big thank you for the help.

I get free internet through the University here. Sure pays to have family working there. I agree AOL can be a pain. We have it at work. It bumps me off regularly. I called AOL on this & their reccomendation was to add more memory to our computer. We are running Windows 98 w/32 MB memory. They said W98 gobbles so much memory that it doesn't leav much for running AOL. Does that sound logical to you?

I am not Scott but I do believe that 32MB is too light memory wise. Memory is dirt cheap right now. Bump it up to 128MB and your system will be happier in everything it does. Do not bother installing more than that with Win 98, it does not effectively use the extra. Now, should you be considering Win 2000 or XP, Bearclaw is right on the money. Our company prohibits the installation of AOL because it causes too many conflicts and problems.

Sounds logical, but, not in the way you might expect. AOL pushed so much garbage onto your computer that it fills it up. Of course they say you need more memory. How else to fit all their cookies, adds, and other stuff. Did they try to sell you the monkey program yet??? Avoid him like the plague. He will annoy you to death and cause general maham. What is worse it takes an expert to kick him out. The problem is their product. They are not going to bad mouth it though. So their "fix" is to upgrade your system, not modify theirs.

Oh yeah I forgot! AOL is for the birds! They are headed up by a really big time anti second amemdment jerk. Steve Case.
