Just bought a few hinged Mauser 98 triggerguards. They are different from all the other ones of this sort I have seen or bought -- the floorplate is almost twice as thick, and the internal machining on the floorplate is different too. They lack guard screws, but have the "phrygean cap" symbol that you see on some Argentine metal. Serial numbers, if any, are an A and 4 numbers. They fit perfectly on any 98 action.

I have seen the Verguio metal, and it didn't look like this. What do I have here?

If they have locking screws it's probably Portagese, and if they dont they're Argentine.

The Argentines are the same as the No. 10 (I think) commercials but have a different release lever.

There have been many commercial units made over the years. Santa Barbara, at one time, had a very thick floor plate and a blocky trigger guard.
