Bluing loss on cylinder front?
What causes this type of wear pattern around the outside of the chambers??

More than likely Flame Cutting under the top strap would be my first guess ,as I'm assuming it's not dragging on anything .

It appears to be dragging on the barrel. Close the cylinder and push it forward and see if it is making contact with the barrel. If so it likely has excess endshake and needs to be corrected. Seek the services of a competent gunsmith who's familiar with this work.

Repeated explosions near by. Strange, the drag marks are tangents.

They are not "tangent", they are drag marks
co-axially with the cylinder pin.

Nailed that one Malm. My first time inspecting Colt DA's. A Python is supposed to have a maximum of .003 endshake. This one is over and drags on the barrel. Luckily I'm only an hour from Hartford so I'll drop it off at the factory.

thanks for your help,
