Impressed with Ultrasonic
WOW - just got an ultrasonic cleaner and can honestly say that it greatly exceeded my expectations! I bought it for brass but knew it would come in handy for other things... relaoding dies, gun parts, tools, drill bits, you name it I've tried it in the last 48-hours.

I'll try to put together some before and after photos (if I can find anything that's still dirty!).

FYI-I bought the Crest model 275 with heat and can highly reccomend it. thumb

Be careful with that thing. It will remove anodizing from trigger groups. It will also remove the blue from "blue tempered" spring stock.

NG, where did you purchase it and if you don't mind--how much $$? Also what are you using for cleaning solution?

Thanks for the insight.

I purchased this one from http://wholesalepoint.com

It's the model 275HT, which was 349 with the removable basket.

A little steep in price? Yes, but now that I see what it can do, I'll no doubt get more than my money's worth out of it.

As for cleaners, I've only used simple green - diluted. BUT there is an entire industry out there for specialty ultrasonic cleaning liquids.

L&R Ultrasonics

seems to be leading the way for cleaning agents.

That's a pretty sharp looking, but pricey "drill bit" cleaner... Big Grin

I also have one in my shop. I use a product called SweetShooter. It is a solvent cleaner and will leave a deep penetrating lubricant in the metal. I do all of my reloading dies in it before using them to get rid of all of the crap left in them from the factory.

Harbor Freight has one .
I bought it for the GF .
But I brought it home when she didn't use it in 2 years and use it for gun parts .

It sure cleans Black powder gunk off breach plugs .

I made the mistake to try and clean a cheap set of scope bases .
I now have white bases
