Glen71Mauser bottom metal questions...
for the metalsmiths and other experts:
1. Are the "lever released" floorplates seen on Oberndorf sporters and some custom rifles the military-type, or are they hinged?
2. I really like the look of a "shotgun" trigger guard with extended rear tang for a lightweight sporter. Do metalsmiths usually make their own guards, or does someone sell them to the trade? I would think them easier to fit on blind magazine stocks, but I have seen them used with floorplates also. Is this an expensive modification?
3. The height of Mauser magazine boxes are sometimes reduced to make a trimmer stock. How much is usually removed? It seems that the trigger lever-to-guard clearance would limit the amount you could remove, or am I missing something?

KurtCMost lever release floorplates are hinged, but some are detachable.
Some smiths make their own bow triggerguards, but they can also be found at shops like
NECG or Brownells.

ScrollcutterTry Don Brown in Yakima, WA. Sorry don't know the number, but he used to make a single trigger sized shotgun guard that had a pistol grip shape to the tang.

Daniel MYou can reduce the height of the magazine a maximum of 11 mm ( 10 mm it's OK ) , then you have a three rounds M98 , it requieres to modify the trigger , I'll send a picture of my reworked Polish M98 , very light weight , carry something like a single shot but with a bolt and three rounds
