The last word I heard was that he had found some medicine that was helping his unfortunate disease. I also heard that he was working on rifles but it was unclear if he was able to checker them. If someone else has better or recent info please post it as I am a great admirer of this first class person and tradesman.

I would gladly take one of his even if it wasn't checkered to his previous standards.

From this list it would be Steve Heilmann. If it could have been anybody it would have been Maurice Ottmar, who unfortunetly is no longer with us. If I can add someone else to the list it would be this man.

Much depends on your tastes. There's a big difference in the styles of Heilmann versus Miller or Wells. Cost and delivery time might also be an issue.

From the list given above, my preference would be Heilmann. Your tastes and preferences might vary.

FWIW, Bolliger rifles can regularly be had at a significant discount on the secondary market.

Chuck, I'll wait as well.

I have on order a .270 Win., .300 H&H, .375 H&H, and an open-sighted .416 Rigby from D'Arcy, and I don't care how long it takes for him to get them done. Time goes by quickly, and the wait is always worth it for the right rifle. I've already got plenty of stuff from D'Arcy to hunt with for the rest of my career, no matter what..........

JT gave some great advice about meeting and talking to these folks. You will find most of them at the SCI and ACGG shows in Reno this winter. The ACGG show is typically held on the weekend of the SCI show at the Silver Legacy hotel.

Great group of gunmakers there and a few that are here on this board.
