Model 99 Savage
Hello All
I just rescued my Grandfather's fine old Model 99 Savage, Cal. 300 Savage, from gun cabinet purgatory. It seems that my Grandfather gave the gun to my Uncle, who put it in the gun cabinet 15 years ago and promptly forgot about it.

According to www.savage99.com the gun was manufactered after 1951. It still has the brass rotary magazine. The barrel is 24" long, measured from chamber to barrel tip. The stock is a checkered pistol grip. It looks like it was carried alot(complete with dings in stock) and shot very little. The bore is pristine, and the action is still tight. I just got through cleaning it and will be out Sunday to eliminate a few tin cans. This gun will be put back into service as my short range brush gun.

My dad brought his 99(the 300 as we call it) in 1942 that and a box of hand loads all that there were during the war. He as shot around 150 deer with it his boys all shot deer with it. My brother as it now I have mine own. They do a good job. I can use any of many rifles and do but the old 99 is just as good for many things.Enjoy yours and keep them shooting.

Your gun is a M-99 EG, the model that made Savage famous....It is a grand gun in a grand caliber...I have witnessed its use on both deer and elk and it passed muster in flying colors...It is however, marginal for elk in the black timber on going away shots unless you use a Barnes X or something simular that has a world of penitration.

Shot the gun about an hour ago for the first time ever.
Shooting off the top of my car, using basic factory Remington 150gr SP, it shot 1.5"-2" groups at about 80yds. After speaking to my Grandfather afterwards he confirmed that he only shot about 3-5 rounds a year for about 35 years or so. Trigger is good for a lever action, slightly heavy but consistant.
This rifle is a class act.

Life couldn't be any better for the man who owned a 99 in both .300 Sav and .250-3000
