Dennis E Olsen IS Da Bomb!
I sent a 98K take-off barrel to Dennis E Olsen last wednesday, the 10th.

I called him today to see if he understood my complex contour drawing & was told that yes he did & the barrel had been completed & return shipped. This afternoon, I saw the paper tube containing my barrel in my mailbox!

6 days to ship a barrel from the Canadian border in northern New York state to Montana, machine the contour & return ship.

THAT is fantastic service IMO.

He machined the barrel exactly as I had requested.

It went from this:

To this:

I had Dennis continue the muzzle 0.609" OD to 7 3/4" from the muzzle, then sweep a 12'4" constant radius W/a .090" radius 1/8 turn clean up @ the chamber cylinder.

This cleaned up the "steps" while removing as little material as possible.

Curious what the fee for the recontour was ? That was great service.

Since it was a "custom radius" contour he quoted me $60. (no crown)The crown was already done when the sight flat was turned out.

Since he now knows that my lay-out/calculation will work he may do the next one for less.

His standard 98K barrel recontour quote was $35 W/O a crown I think. I told him I wanted a custom long sweep (12'4") radius W/a specified start/end point so I wouldn't have blamed him if he covered his A$$ on an unknown entity.

I sent him a detailed drawing & by golly, he did it exactly as I drew it & it turned out in metal just as it did on the paper.

Olsen's work is first rate. He reworked a P14 Enfield action for me 25 years ago and turned the ugly hunk of steel I sent him into a work of art.
