Live OakRem 721 trigger replacement
My son inherited a Rem 721, what I will call a ADL. The rifle was not taken care by his great uncle! Bore is dark and stock is rough. So its not worth a lot. It had the old safety that locked the bolt. He did not like it because of the safety and can now afford to shoot what his wife will let him buy! He had another Rem trigger, one of those law suit replacements that he replaced with an aftermarket type. I put the law suit trigger on the rifle, checked the trigger pull and was seeing how much wood to remove to make it fit. The trigger bow broke off right at the adjustment screw! Before I put the original back, I am looking for a cheap three position alternative. Anybody have a suggestion? Just to keep the old rifle going I would like to see him rebarrel it to a 35 Whelen.

dpcdI, literally, just put an old 700 trigger on a 721 in 300 H&H. Works fine.
For you, get a new Timney.
In fact today I soldered a new ring into the bolt face; it was cracked away where the old extractor was; I'm putting a Sako on it.

Live OakPM is on the way Dan
Great Uncle was a deer hunter. Shot the 3006 maybe 5 times a year. He had no cleaning stuff that I ever saw. Soft case under the bed! Sight it in, shoot his deer, oil it up and back under the bed! Surprising he did reload. Herter's stuff!

AtkinsonIm thinking Timney makes a trigger for the 721. Im told there is a problem with using a 700 trigger due to the safety??

kendogThe only issue with putting a 700 trigger on a 721/722 is the contour of the safety lever. 700"s have a cutout on the receiver tang to allow clearance for the straight(er) safety lever. Earlier guns dont have this and the safety lever curves around the tang.

dpcdI just did this and the 700 safety curved around the receiver tang of the 721 perfectly.

sliversBeen several years ago, but I remember having to make alterations to a 721 tang to be able to install a Shilen trigger, with the safety lever from a "Walker" Remington 700 trigger. Also, to fit the barreled action into a synthetic stock properly, those alterations were needed. It was not 'just like' a model 700.

AtkinsonI just ordered a Timney for my 721 and the sent me a 700 that has to be fitted and its a simple modification..I skimmed over the process and will not deal with until I get the gun back from JES in a 35 Whelen...
