9,3x62 the optimal twist
Hi
normaly the rifles in this caliber have a rifling twist of 1/14 inches, but this twist was for thr max weight of 286 gr. for the long 286 gr monometal or woodleigh solids in 300 grain . is it 1/12 or sharper twist needed or the old barrels with 1/14 can stabilize those long bullets?
regards
yes

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

Hi Yes,

I ran the numbers last week, The long monometals and the long Wooodleigh bullets are adequately stabilized with a 1:14" twist rate.

The 9.3x62 made its reputation on large and dangerous game with 14" twist barrels. I have always used 12" twist barrels myself, figuring that it would remove any doubt about stabilizing issues. Some guys still seem to think that a 10" twist is needed, but I think that is probably unnecessary...
