What to do
Hello, everyone. I am building a matched pair of rifles on the MRC 1999 SA which is really misnamed, it should be MRC IM (intermediate).

The big gun is a 376 Styer. Period.

The other caliber has been a quandry because there really is no bad choice. I have a 9.3 x 57 and a 308, 7-08 and a 6MM Rem so those are out. So is the 358 Win for reasons that will start a big argument here if I go into them (but you can certainly start another thread if your're a flame-master like me .

For every plus on whats left there is an equal plus for another so I decided to leave it up to YOU!

Whichever caliber gets the most votes goes into the gun. Write-ins are fine but they have to have a simple majority to win. To give you an idea of the format for the rifles, see below:

http://www.hunt101.com/img/282149.jpg

Forgot to add, the little gun will have conventional sling swivels inletted into the stock and probably no front sight.

Also forgot; this will run to noon Friday when the poll closes. Right now it's Bob in the lead with Olaf on his heels.8 x 577 x 576.5 Swede6.5 x 57257 Roberts

If you were a traditionalist and building matching small bore/ big bore rifles I would say the 7x57. But since your not, (ie the choice of 376 Steyr) I would say the 257 would fill a place in your battery.

I just ordered a Krieger 6.5mm tube and an Accurate Innovations stock for my Left handed MRC short action myself. Mine's going to be a 6.5x284.

I thought pretty hard about 6.5 x 284 but if I do that one it will probably be another day. I have a long action that will be a 6.5-06 first. Thanks for the input, though.

Harry,

Tell us about the wood, who turned them and what. I voted for 7X57.

.257 Roberts, I think a action of this length will work great. I am building set of rirles on Montana actions .35 Whelen and .257 Roberts.

Billy, that is some black walnut from GAG. Both have some turning defects that really pissed me off but he did drop the price to something cheap enough to make me accept them.

Nonetheless I have a lot of work to do to make the finnished product look right. Probably more than if I had started from a blank but doable. Might even have the 376 done in time for the Nov. hunt! It has a widow's peak ebony tip and the little gun has a straight one.
