RogersGunWorksRuger Front Sight Removal
Need some help removing the banded front ramp sight base from a Ruger No.1 RSI. I have removed the set screw & tried to drive the sight base off without success. Are these sight bases glued on or just a tight, press fit. Would appreciate any tips. Thanks.

WoodHunterThe ones I have played with were heat shrunk on. Look for a small setscrew also, under the sight blade.
If you use heat, only heat the band and keep the barrel cool with a wet rag.
Same for the barrel band sling lug.

dpcdWelcome to the Ruger #1 front band removal club. I have taken off many; they vary from coming off with a little tap with a hammer and a brass drift, to Ain't comin off, period. They are put on before bluing and are "seated" by Igor, and held with the set screw.
So, if it won't come off with driving, then try heating a bit, but that never works for me. Take a ball peen hammer and tap the bottom and up the sides a bit; that will loosen it up. You are going to polish and blue it anyway so the tap marks will be removed. The tapping, peening, expands the hoop, and it becomes loose. I have seen ones that idiots removed by sawing along the bottom band.

Peening the band worked fine & the hammer marks were easy to polish out. I appreciate the good advice.
