Winchester M1885 extraction
I have just re-barreled an original Winchester M1885 Low Wall and chambered it for .22 WMR/.22 Magnum. The gun shoots great but the extractor pulls a fired case only about 1/4" from the chamber. The remainder of the case has to be pulled from the chamber with one's fingers. The extractor is two-piece but has the same travel as the factory one-piece part. I have used this two-piece extractor with complete satisfaction for the .22 Long Rifle, and fired cases are either fully extracted or ejected depending on how smartly the lever is operated.

I'd appreciate any recommendations based on actual experience with the .22 WMR in an original Winchester M1885. Thanks.

There is a spring mounted to the front of the action that actuates the ejector on mine, which was made and installed by Dan Zimmerman of DZ Arms.

I just made and installed a sear spring in a 32 RF, low wall. I didn't know the extractors ever did anything but pull the case out 1/4 inch anyway.
But Roger should know.
