Proper wood stock overall length
What says the hive on overall length of a wood stock on a bolt gun, m70
Whatever you want it to be from Mannlicher (barrel no more than 19 inches), to early Rigby type with a very short forearm.
It's yours, and you are the one who has to look at it; not us. If you want one like everyone else has, I can measure a factory one for you. Means nothing.

BobsterI measured several brands of factory stocks and they run 32-33 inches.
There are two ends and a middle to a stock. The only tangible is the middle, the remainder is variable.

Lester BrooksForearm lengths: 26 inch barrel===11 inch
24 " " '' 10 1/2 in
20 to 22 " " 10 in "
This includes a forend tips
The butt end can be from 12 to 14 1/2. Arm length and over all body length will have to determine the butt length. I like blanks to be about 34 inch.
Here is a 26 in. barrel with 11 inch forearm. This is the largest whitetail deer I shot in 1965 in Palo Pinto county in Texas. 22 1/2 in spread
Does this help?

AtkinsonDepends on style, American custom, monte carlo, etc. etc., and my favorite the 8 to 9 inch English/African model..The inches are all over the place and no set data..Do it the way YOU like it..

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)Brook's fore arm length guide is most likely with forearm mounted sling eye. Most barrel mounted sling eye, the forearm will come in at about 8" So...If you take off about 1.3 in or so for possible tip material, you can get by with a shorter blank

Bill LeeperI use the sling for shooting so I like a little more length so the front swivel can be mounted on the stock. It really is a case where form can follow function. Regards, Bill
