KG Gun Kote
From what I have read, Gun Kote is a realitively easy process if you have the right equipment (About 2 hours).

However, I don't own a blasting cabinate and the thought of trying to bake a Remington 870 in my wifes oven isn't very appealing. (I hear it Stinks!)

Does anyone offer Gun Kote as a service?

I'm normally a "do it yourself" kind of guy, but if some company is offering the service at a reasonable price I can always be swayed.

Also, I'd like to hear any thoughts or experiences with Gun Kote Vs other finishes.

Thanks,

J.W.:

Mac's Restorations [Arizona] has the KG process refined to an art form [or maybe a science]. Their turn-around is quick and pricing is very competitive. After discovering Mac's I quit doing my own KG coating. It just isn't worth the trouble and Mac's does it right [blast with 120 grit silica media, parkerize and then KG Kote].

Jordan is right.

KG works great if the metal under it is parkerized. That adds a lot of steps.

Cerakote works well on bare (blasted) metal.

If you are only going to do one or two guns you might want to have Fir4Duty do the Cerakote.

I agree wholeheartedly with Jordan. Mac's
has done two rifles for me and the finish is still perfect after years of hard, wet hunting use!

Well I'm taking your collective advice.

I contacted Mac by e-mail yesterday and am making arrangements to send him my 870 for his standard coating. (Gun Kote over Parkerizing)

Thanks for the tip
