My "new" M-S 8X60 with pictures
Well I have to say my wife is definitely a keeper. My newest acquisition is a beautiful Mannlicher-Schonauer in 8X60mm Magnum. I believe this particular model is a “High Velocity Sporting Rifleâ€. The bluing is still in excellent shape and the stock has only very minor handling marks. There was no rust or pitting below the stock line either and all serial numbers match. The butt plate trap will accommodate three cartridges. My next steps will be to get a chamber cast and slug the bore. I also would like to locate a set of claw mount rings for the bases. Then I will need to order Dies, Brass and the right bullets.

Im not the sharpest knife in the drawer. What does this rifle have to do with your wife being a keeper?

Nice! I bought a 1952 model earlier this year. The fit and finish on these rifles is absalutely amazing. I've never seen this quality in a factory rifle and many many customs.

You may want to try NEGC for a set of claw rings.

I think he made a trade Big Grin

Serioiusly though, I think your wife loves you more than mine loves me. or maybe you are just a lot easier to live with so she rewards you. congratulations either way, good looking rifle.

Noll, those MS are a bit of PITA to get mounts for - with the off-set rear mount. In particular, it does not make life easier that you already have the bases for a claw mount on there - claw mounts are about as expensive and tricky as they come. Still, what does one not do for a super rifle like this one.

I would personally start at EAW. Note how this page lists a claw mount for the MS. I have not researched it any further, but at least it is a ray of hope... NECG represents EAW in the States, I believe. Otherwise contact EAW direcly in Germany.

Thanks guys I will give EAW and NECG a try. Custom rings may be the only option.

As far as my wife ... I still got her or she still has me. And she agreed to my buying this rifle though she admits to not understanding why I "need" so many guns. She just smiled and said go ahead and get it if you want it.

Most likely you will have to send the rifle and scope to New England Custom Gun so they can fit the claw mounted rings to them.

I wouldn't trade Wifezilla for a M-S rifle but that's because they're all made right handed.

HP,

After reading the info on the NECG sight I believe you are right. The only way to assure a proper fit is to fit them to the bases on the rifle. But overall it is a small price to pay to bring her back in service.

Email your pictures to Lee LeBas and get his opinion. Lee is about the best claw mount guy in the country.

Forrest,

Thaks for the lead. I talked with NECG and they want $550 just to fit the rings. I will give Lee a call.

Tom,
Nice rifle and glad to see she is treating you so well.

BTW, the "other" one is coming along.

Chic, Yep she treats me very well. Although she will admit that I spoil her some too. Makes life much easier in the long run.

I was curious about the "other" rifle too. Is there any sort of time frame I should give Roger on when to expect it?

I spoke to him yesterday and told him I would send it to him when I have the finish where I want it.
