RollandRear sight file ?
I have a three blade rear express sight that I am going to use on a rifle The blades are blanks and will be needed to be cut. I am told that there is a file shaped for this purpose, I have looked but not found one and I don't know what its proper name is to look it up. I have a 60 degree dove
tail file

Toomany ToolsI use a 60-degree file, nothing special but not a dovetail file as the ones I have only cut on one surface.

Yes mine cuts one side only, I had read somewhere that is now relegated to the dark regions of the brain that the file was a designed so that cut both sides of the "V" at the same time. more shallow that a 60 degree

J WisnerThe name of the file you are looking for is a Cantsaw file.
Flat on one side, and the other side has two 30 degree flats.
Makes a real nice vee for the open sight blades.

2152hqI bought mine at a local shop that sells chainsaws and other weekender woodsman stuff.
They're used for sharpening buck saws and other large tooth lumber saws.
I think I used it once, maybe twice, but it worked nice for my intended purpose of sight leaf profiling on M/L rifles.
Never sharpened a saw with it.

Magnum Hunter1I found a cantsaw file for about $11 on Ebay several years ago. Quite sharp as well. Good buy. You might look there.
