Strip and refinish B&C stock?
What would the best way be to strip the existing paint off a Bell and Carlson stock? I'd like to restock a pre-64 that I have and don't want a black stock since thats all they make. I also have a B&C stock on a mauser that I can experiment with since the paint is flaking off already.

Ivan,

Have you tried to contact B&C about this? - They may have some suggestions. I'm guessing you already suspect that some paint removers can damage the finish!

Ivan, why strip off the paint, just re-paint in the color you want. I did one in that rino bedliner stuff and it turned out pretty good and was tough as hell but it was black. Also, it was a really cheap old stock in case things went south. Big Grin

I figured paint striper would have adverse affects on resins in the stock... I would just repaint it, but I think that the paint would plug up the checkering, and in the case of the mauser stock, the paint flakes off with a little presure from my fingernail... Maybe I can just run a checkering tool through the checkers to clean the paint out, sand the rest of the stock and repaint... That one I'm not to worried about, in the case of the pre-64 sock I'd really like to get a tan spider web stock, but I think the only one they make comes all black, black and blue doesn't look all that great to me... Maybe I'll contact them and see if they can just send me one painted and ready to go...
