yumastepsideReloading dies
...not sure if this goes here, reloading or wildcats..I have a pair of RCBS reloading dies, 8-06 Imp. FL resizer and seater, and I was wondering if it was possible to " reverse engineer " them to get a reamer made? I contacted RCBS with details from the dies, numbers etc, but they said they were probably custom made and had no information on them......any thoughts?

I suppose you don't know if the 8mm-06 Imp dies are for the Ackley Improved version where reamers should already be available?
If you don't know, you could do a 'chamber cast' of the FL die and compare dimensions with 8mm-06 Ackley Imp dimensions.

Absolutely and that's where a chamber cast of the FL die would provide dimensions to compare with known variants.
Not sure how successful making a reamer up from a chamber cast of the FL die would be, as FL dies size to below chamber dimensions.

yumastepsideI am supposing the die is the RCBS version not the Ackley, 30 deg. as opposed to the 40 deg. Ackley. I have a 265 RCBS chambered Mod 70, which is the RCBS improved version of the 6.5-06, so I was hoping to get a " matching " reamer for my 8mm-06 VZ24....I will do a " chamber " cast of the die and hope to hear from Dave.

I idly wonder if you can use a chamber cast in an EDM machine to shape a reamer, then machine flutes in it.
Dave Manson no longer is at Manson Reamers.
Of course, RCBS is not going to give you tech data on their die dimensions.
However, when you set out to make a set of dies, in a wildcat cartridge with no SAAMI support, you first make the chamber reamer. Then you make the die reamer from that drawing. So, you will need two reamers; one for your rifle chamber, and one for your FL sizing die. You can use the chamber reamer to make the bullet seating die.
And yes, Manson can do all that, although Dave id not there any longer.
Oh, now that I read your question, you already have the dies. Here is what you do; resize a piece of brass in the FL die, and send that to any reamer maker; they will make the chamber reamer from that. You will have to expand the brass first, larger than the die. Or make a Cerrosafe cast of it. Call them; they might just take the die and measure the ID dimensions and go from there.

eagle27I note from another thread discussion on alternatives to Cerrosafe for chamber casting that CS Alloys 165 (formerly Cerrosafe) publish data showing that the alloy grows to .0000" after 1 hour and then continues to grow to a maximum of .0025".
Would .0025" growth in chamber cast measurements be enough to make a chamber reamer from?
If you know it grew by .002, then the reamer maker will know what to do. But ideally, you measure it at one hour, and use that data. The reamer maker will know what to do.
