tiggertateAnd now for something completely different...
I was talking today with a close friend who owns the largest independent sporting goods store in the Rio Grande Valley (Texas)today who said he would subsidize a decent gunsmith who would move there and set up shop.
He's talking about a journeyman 'smith who is as content fixing a broken 870 as building a custom gun. He has a lot in Pharr behind his store on Hwy 83 (MacAllen for those of you in Rio Linda)on which he would build and rent a shop. He doesn't want another employee; he just wants a quality 'smith in the area and would help make that happen.
He posted notices at the school in Colorado and got no inquiries. I guess a lot of people don't want to go to South Texas or don't know the market but there are well over a million people in the "Valley" and its a ripe field for a decent gunsmith. Email me through the private messenging tools if you want details.

Gringo CazadorHarry,
Your right about the population, there's a gazilllon people in Rio Grande Valley. I think McAllen alone has a million.
I don't know what it is about South Texas, but we have few gunsmiths that I know of, I'm sure the valley has less, or at least thats my take. And it's sure not for lack of hunting and shooting.

tiggertateI can't figure it out either, Billy. Great winter weather, lots of well to do clients, good fur & fowl hunting, superb freshwater and salt water fishing plus barrels of tequila. So what's the problem?

And that's not counting the illegal aliens. That would be more than a gazillion (I can't count any higher than a gazillion). Yep, somebody is missing a golden opportunity.

Dago RedDamn, barrels of tequila! Wish I was a smith! :-)
Has he also sent notices to Lassen Community up in northern Kalifornia?
Butch, it's easy, take a dinner tray from a cafateria, have it bronzed and glue a couple of silver dollars to it, then add some hardware to the back, VOILA! Texas belt buckle!

tiggertateRed, I thought you just take a Moonie hub cap and scratch a name or picture of a horse on it.
