mstarlingMilling fixture
OK Guys,
Wheeler Engineering has apparently discontinued its large ring Mauser rail milling fixture. Can't locate one.
What is the best way to hold one of these guys to mill the rails? Would a fixture be milled from 6061 or 7075 aluminum be stiff enough?
Ideas appreciated. Thanks,

WestpacI didn't know there was a specific fixture for that. I've been using a milling vise for nearly 30 years. I'll see if I can dig up a photo and post it.

mstarlingWestpac,
Sure would appreciate it. Have use a mill vise previously and was uncomfortable. Would hate to have an action chatter or over stress one with the vise.
Thanks!

rem721I used to hate to have to dial in the vise evrytime so I had a piece of thickwall square tubing that I trued the sides on. then I milled out an opening in the middle to allow access to the feedrails. I secured the action to this via two semi circular cut that the screws went through into the action. This allowed me to set the action at whatever angle I wanted without the need to dial the vice back in everytime.

mstarlingJames,
This is the one I was trying to buy. They show out of stock. Gunaccessories.com also shows out of stock. Midway shows this fixture as being "discontinued by the manufacturer" A google search shows no other sellers.
Anyone have one they can give me some information on?
1) Material of constuction (steel or aluminum)
2) Width of the fixture
3) Thickness of the fixture
4) Width of the slot cut through the fixture
With this info I can acquire the material an make one myself.
Thanks Guys!

Toomany ToolsMark Stratton's book has a similar fixture that might work for you. Easy to make and the drawings with dimensions are includedn with the book.
