Michael MichalskiQuestion: Howa Mini 1500 .222
Can't make it shoot as well as I would like. Are there any reasonable rechamber suggestions?

theback40I don't see how rechambering would help anything. A bad barrel can happen from anyone, but those Howa's are usually good shooters.
Have you done all the usual checking of action screws, mounts, crown and bedding?

Michael MichalskiI think so, but will recheck. Thanks
Specify exactly how it shoots. If you are expecting .25 MOA, it might not do that. But yes, Howa barrels are usually sub MOA at least.

theback40Are the groups stringing, or just large and rounded? Good groups, but a flyer? You can get an idea by how the groups act.

matt salmWhat bullet are you shooting? Pretty sure the 222 on the Howa’s are the traditional 14 twist, maybe 12? 55gr ballistic tips may not be the best, a 50gr sp might work better.

Michael MichalskiThanks for the responses. This tells me to get the Howa from the back of the safe, check all screws, and replace the scope (rings too?). Go back to my loading/shooting notes and analyze that (if I can) and try some different bullet weights, powders, powder weights, and OAL's. That's almost like starting over but the problem could be me and not the Howa. I'll let you guys know. Thanks again.

rcraigBarring any mechanical/barrel issues, it's pretty hard to find a 222 that will not shoot well. Use 50 or 53 grain bullets. As far as powder goes, 3031, 4198, R7, 2015BR or others with the appropriate burn rate. 14 is the original twist .
Good luck and good shooting.
Keep us posted.
